Privacy window film is a film applied to the inside of existing glass that stops people from seeing in. One way window film, sometimes called mirror or daytime privacy film, is the most requested privacy film for windows in Dallas homes, but it is one of five kinds. The right one depends on one question: do you need privacy only in daylight, around the clock, or only sometimes?
Reflective film mirrors the brighter side of the glass. During the day that is outside, so passers-by see a mirror and you see your yard. Dark neutral film does the same job with a tinted look instead of a mirror, which most HOAs and landlords prefer. Both are solar films, so they also cut heat and glare and block 99% of UV.
Day Private Night People can see in when your lights are on. Pair with blinds, or use a frost band on the lower panes.
Frosted film turns clear glass into etched glass. Light still comes through, but nobody can see in, day or night. It is the answer for bathrooms, entry sidelites, exam rooms and glass office walls. Blackout film blocks light and view completely for media rooms, storage and server rooms. Smart film is switchable: clear when powered, frosted when off.

The privacy calls we get most from DFW homeowners and businesses, and the film that fixes each one.
Big front windows on a corner lot. Fix: reflective or dark neutral film for the day, frost band on the lower panes for night.
You keep the blind down and lose the light. Fix: frosted film, full privacy with daylight.
Everyone walking past sees the whiteboard. Fix: frost band at eye level, or smart film for privacy only during meetings.
Customers see stock, desks and screens. Fix: frosted lower panels or a branded frost that doubles as signage.

Privacy film is priced per square foot of glass, installed. Most commercial projects we install run $8 to $25 per square foot; a few home windows are quoted after a quick look, and switchable smart film is a separate product at $75 to $100 per square foot. Every estimate is free and in writing.
Reflective, dark neutral, frosted and blackout films sit in a similar range. Smart film costs more because it is an electrical product.
A bathroom window and a glass-walled office floor are priced differently. More glass means a lower rate per foot.
Frost bands, gradients, logos and patterns are cut to your glass and priced per piece.
Ground-floor glass from a ladder; tall atrium or second-story glass may need a lift, listed as its own line.
Want a number for your glass? The estimate is free and takes about half an hour for most homes.
Free estimate, samples on your glass, installed in one visit for most homes and offices.
We look at which glass needs privacy, when you need it, and how the light falls, and bring samples of each film.
Reflective, dark neutral, frosted, blackout or smart film, with a written quote and the spec sheet for your HOA or landlord.
Our own crew installs it and cleans up. Bathrooms and sidelites take about an hour; a glass-walled office floor, a day.

Reflective and dark privacy films work in daylight because it is brighter outside than inside. At night, with lights on indoors, the effect flips and people can see in. For privacy around the clock, use frosted film, blackout film or switchable smart film, which do not depend on light.
With reflective or dark neutral film, yes: you see out clearly and people outside see a mirror or a dark pane during the day. Frosted and blackout films block the view both ways. Smart film is clear when it is powered on and frosted when it is off.
One-way film is a reflective solar film. It does not have a direction built in; it simply mirrors whichever side is brighter. During the day that is the outside, so you get privacy. At night the brighter side is usually inside, so the privacy goes away unless you close blinds or use frosted film instead.
Privacy film is priced per square foot of glass, installed. Reflective and dark neutral solar films, frosted film and blackout film all land in a similar range; custom-cut frosted logos and patterns are priced per piece, and switchable smart film is a different product at $75 to $100 per square foot installed. Most commercial projects we install run $8 to $25 per square foot. We measure, bring samples and give you a written quote at a free estimate.
Frosted film does not; it lets most of the daylight through, just diffused. Dark neutral and reflective films reduce light by the shade you pick, so a 35% film lets in about a third of the visible light. Blackout film blocks the light along with the view. We bring samples so you can see each one on your own glass.
Frosted film. It gives full privacy day and night and keeps the daylight. See our frosted window film page for bathroom, shower and sidelite options.
For a glass-walled conference room, a frost band at eye level is the most common choice because it keeps the room feeling open. Smart film is the upgrade: the glass stays clear for an open feel and goes private at the flip of a switch during a meeting. We installed frosted privacy film on PepsiCo’s Frisco offices and smart film in several DFW conference rooms.
Reflective film if you want the most daytime privacy and the biggest heat cut, or dark neutral film if your HOA or your taste rules out a mirrored look. Both keep your view out during the day. For privacy after dark, pair either one with blinds or choose frosted film for the lower panes.
Reflective and dark neutral films are solar films first, so they reject a large share of the sun’s heat and 99% of UV. Frosted and blackout films block 99% of UV and some heat. If heat is the main problem and privacy is second, start with a solar film and add frost only where you need it.
Most HOAs allow non-reflective films such as dark neutral and frosted film, and many allow ceramic films that look close to clear. Mirrored films are the ones that get questioned. We give you the film name and spec sheet so the approval is a quick email.
Inside, on the room side of the glass, for almost every job. That protects the film from weather and keeps it looking new. The frosted side faces the room, and it is easy to clean with a soft cloth and a mild, ammonia-free cleaner.
Yes. A technician removes it with heat and a scraper, and the glass is cleaned back to its original condition. That makes film a good choice for leased spaces and for rooms whose use may change.
Quality XPEL and 3M films are built to last many years indoors and carry the manufacturer’s warranty: 10 or 12 years on the commercial films we install; residential terms vary by film. Frosted film in a bathroom or office typically outlasts the decor around it.
Privacy film is fixed: once it is on, the glass is frosted, dark or mirrored all the time. Smart film is switchable, clear with power and frosted without, so you choose privacy only when you need it. Smart film costs more and needs an electrician; frosted film is the simple, permanent answer.
Yes. Entry sidelites, French doors, patio doors, shower enclosures and office doors are some of the most common privacy film jobs we do. Each pane is measured and cut on site for a clean edge.
