PDLC switchable film cut to each pane; the biggest single line in the quote.
A low-voltage transformer sized to the glass, about $150 per zone, plus a wall switch or remote. One transformer can run a whole room or a single pane.

Glass prep, a bubble-free wet install, trim and testing, with the manufacturer’s warranty on the film and our warranty on the work.

Retrofit smart film from Sun Masters runs $75 to $100 per square foot installed in Dallas–Fort Worth for the film and the install, plus about $150 per transformer (one per switching zone). New switchable smart glass (a laminated insulated unit that replaces the pane) runs $150 to $200 per square foot. The spread inside each range comes down to how the glass is framed, how many panes share a zone, and whether an electrician is needed to bring power to the window. Projects over 100 square feet get volume pricing.
Online prices are for raw film shipped to you, with no transformer, wiring or install included and nobody responsible if it peels or fails to switch. Installed pricing covers the film cut to your exact pane, the busbar and lead wires, the install itself and the warranty on all of it; the transformer for each zone (about $150) and its switch are listed on the quote as their own line.
There is no fixed minimum, but small jobs cost more per foot because the transformer, switch and trip cost about the same whether the glass is 6 square feet or 60. A single bathroom window or a pair of sidelites is quoted as a flat price after a quick look.
Barely. Typical manufacturer specs are under 1 watt per square foot while the film is clear and nothing while it is private, so a 60 square foot conference room wall uses about as much power as a night light.
For most commercial jobs, yes: the transformer plugs into standard 120V power, and getting a clean outlet or junction box to the window is electrical work. For a patio door or a home window near an outlet, the transformer can often plug straight in. We tell you which case you are in at the estimate, and we can coordinate the electrician.
Yes, roughly half the cost per square foot, because it goes on the glass you already have instead of replacing the window. Smart glass is the right call when the glass is being replaced anyway, for wet rooms, or for exterior panes that need a sealed unit. See our smart film vs smart glass guide.
Frosted film is about one-tenth the cost but is private all the time. Blinds are cheap but block the light and the view and need to be opened and closed. Smart film is the switchable option that works on existing glass, which is why it is priced like a glass product rather than a film product.
Yes. Smart film carries the manufacturer’s warranty on the film and electronics, and our install is warrantied by us. The exact terms are written into your proposal.
A single conference room or patio door is usually a one-day job. Larger multi-office jobs are scheduled after the site visit. New smart glass units are made to order, so allow lead time for manufacturing before the one-day install.
New smart glass runs $150 to $200 per square foot installed in Dallas–Fort Worth, made to order as a laminated unit and set by a glazier. Retrofit smart film on existing glass is $75 to $100.
We can give a ballpark from pane measurements and a photo. For a firm written price we visit, because the wiring path and the framing decide a lot of the cost.
